Types of support grant, who can get a grant and how to apply
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has announced further financial support for businesses:
1. Non-discretionary “National Lockdown” grant – (Localised Restriction Support Grant: Closed)
This is a grant for businesses that are business ratepayers and have been instructed to close by the recent government regulations during national lockdown. The list of businesses required to close includes non-essential shops, hospitality, leisure and entertainment venues and personal care services.
The amount of grant given is determined by the rateable value of the business premises:
Rateable Value | Grant payable |
£15,000 and under | £1,334 for 28 days |
£15,001 but less than £50,999 | £2,000 for 28 days |
£51,000 and over | £3,000 for 28 days |
The eligibility criteria for this fund is set by government and is for the fixed 28-day period from 5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020.
To receive the grant, businesses must have been ‘open as usual’ (i.e. trading, active in buying or selling goods or services in person) on the date the lockdown was announced.
Businesses ordered to close but have repurposed to a click and collect, takeaway or delivery service are still eligible for the grant.
