The Pursuit of Happyness is the story of Chris Gardener who is trying to pick up his life after he makes a business decision that costs him his life’s earnings. The film was released in 2006, directed by Gabriele Muccino and is the first film for Will Smith to star alongside his son Jaden Smith. After his experience with homelessness Chris Gardenner now sponsors several Homeless associations and is a world-renowned speaker.
The Imitation Game
During world war 2, The English Mathematician Alan Turing tries to crack the German enigma code with the help from other mathematicians. Released in 2014 Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the role as Alan Turing and stars alongside Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode, they portray the story of the crucial role Alan played with his team.
Hidden Figures
Hidden Figures is the story of three female African American mathematicians for NASA who play an important role in the astronaut, John Glenn’s launch into Orbit while dealing with racial and gender discrimination at work. Directed by Theodore Melfi and staring Taraji Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe. Katherine Johnson played by Taraji P. Henson appeared at the Golden Globes and presented the best documentary award in 2017.
The Upside
The Upside is based on the story of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and his recovery after a tragic accident. He is in search of a care assistant and comes across a man looking for a job after spending some time in jail. Through the film it is a rollercoaster of emotions. Directed by Neil Burger and staring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston there is bound to be a few tears of sadness and joy!
Self-Made
Self-Made a new Netflix series based on the stories of real people from the past, that maybe not everyone knows about, The story is about a self-made millionaire Madam C.J Walker, who made her millions by creating her own hair products and creating her dream. Starring Octavia Spencer as Madam C.J. Walker and Tiffany Haddish. This is the first in hopefully many more Self-Made Series by Netflix.
